Being Human

Stories from my heart

I was born with hypertrophic cardiomyapathy in Singapore. This resulted in heart failure for most of my life. I had a permanent pacemaker implanted when I was 16 years old, and its battery replaced at 27 years old. In 2023, at 29 years old, I received a heart transplant in Pittsburgh, USA. Despite this limitation, I managed to grow up, finish college and am currently pursuing a PhD program. For most of my life, I am not a normal human. After my transplant, my body began functioning more like a normal human.

This is my story of my perspective through life, and my journey where I learnt what it means to be human. This is a story written from me to you, from the bottom of my heart.
